“Proclaim liberty (the Jubilee)”
So you are to consecrate the fiftieth year and proclaim liberty in the land for all its inhabitants. It shall be your Jubilee, when each of you is to return to his property and to his clan. (Leviticus 25:10 BSB)

The cultural key
The Jubilee (yovel, named for the ram's horn that announced it) was a sweeping economic reset every fiftieth year: debts canceled, indentured Israelites freed, and land sold off in hard times returned to the families who originally held it. It was a built-in brake against permanent poverty and the endless accumulation of land by the few, resetting the nation to a rough equality every half-century. 'Proclaim liberty throughout the land' is engraved on the Liberty Bell. Jesus opens his ministry by reading Isaiah's Jubilee promise, 'the year of the LORD's favor,' and declaring it fulfilled.
Recovered meaning
Every fiftieth year Israel was to hit reset: slaves freed, debts wiped, land restored, so that no family was locked into permanent ruin. Jesus takes up its language to announce that the true Jubilee has arrived in him.
