The cultural key
The grammar is precise: one reader (singular), many hearers (plural). Books were scarce, copied by hand, and most people met a text through a lector reading it to the assembly (compare 'have this letter read... to them all,' Colossians 4:16 and 1 Thessalonians 5:27). Revelation was composed for exactly that performance: a single dramatic reading, out loud, to congregations, which is why it runs on refrains, numbered sequences, and sound ('I heard...') the ear can follow.
Recovered meaning
The book opens by blessing its own liturgy: the reader standing up in seven churches and the rooms listening. Revelation is a script before it is a puzzle, and its first beatitude is for performing it.
